Peter Eastgate become the youngest ever World Series of Poker Main Event Champion

[ Posted November 17th, 2008 ] by admin

Peter Eastgate - WSOP 2008 Main Event Champion

The November Nine sat down at the table, with Peter Eastgate the young 22 year old sitting 4th in chips. After a long awaited 4 month delay and 39 x 120 minute levels later, we have crowned the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, Peter Eastgate.

A record held for over 19 years by Phil Hellmuth as the youngest WSOP Main Event Champion at 24 years of age was broken by the 22 year old accounting student turned poker professional.

Gentle natured Eastgate, was fairly humble when presented with his bracelet. He talked of how it was simple and decisions were made easy for him in many setup hands.

When asked what he would do with the $9,152,416USD prize, "I don’t even know" was the response. I suppose in Aussie bucks, with todays exchange, $9.1million USD worked out to roughly just over 14million AUD!! Where do you start?

Ivan Demidov came in a gracious 2nd place winning $5,809,595USD. The young russian was the pick for many going into the final table. Demidov had, in the meantime, already made a WSOP Main Event final table for the WSOP Europe finishing 3rd, in London for 2008 Championship Event. He looked poised to go 2 places better at the big one but could only manage one better.Peter Eastgate - WSOP 2008 Main Event Champion
