Leigh Murtz is still in the hunt and through to DAY 3 WSOP Main Event

[ Posted July 12th, 2010 ] by admin

Leigh Murtz WSOPThe whirlwind dream continues for Leigh Murtz from the South-West suburbs of Sydney.

After 2 days of solid poker, it’s usually around Day 3-4 when the cream starts to rise to the top in poker’s biggest event. Australia’s and AllAussiePoker.com’s own, Leigh Murtz is still in the hunt for WSOP poker glory.

Leigh started the day with a little over 40,000 in tournament chips.

“[I] got down to about 18,000 in chips” said Murtz.

It looked like dreams were starting to fade as his stack started to dwindle. A favourable change in tables saw Murtz at a table he was able to control and dominate, “I soon found myself sittting with about 150,000″. He was beginning to make a charge at the chip-lead.

Playing at his table for the majority of the night was the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year, Frank Kassela (2 bracelets, 5 cashes and $1,233,987 USD in tournament winnings in this years WSOP alone) – Frank takes the honor from last years 2009 WSOP POY winner and Australian, Jeff Lisandro. As the day came to an end, Leigh told All Aussie Poker about a few hands beats he was taking, “Unfortunately I lost to a few bad beats just before the end of the night and now my chip count is just under 70,000.”

Spirits remain high as he is still in the hunt. “All good,[I'm] just under chip average.”

ESPN camera’s were surrounding Leigh and his entourage all day, it could be an interesting few days coming for this Aussie.

Out of 7,319 starting players there are 2,557 remain.

Aussies still in the Tournament are: Tim Marsters (150,200), Matthew Pearson (120,100), Kent Hunter (109,100), Dave Allan (95,500), Jai Kemp (83,600), Tyron Krost (70,800), Joel Dodds (31,700) and The Poker Star Amanda De Cesare (30,400).

Team APL also have players left playing with Michael Doumani leading the way with 170,200. Others to make it through include George Apat, Jade Tornquist, Malcolm Shortland, Toby Hart, Aaron Peterson, Nick Filippopoulos and Phil Faux.

Stayed tuned in here for updates on Leigh’s progress. To send Leigh a message, leave a comment below and we’ll be sure it gets to him.
