Phil Hellmuth and 12 WSOP Bracelets?

[ Posted July 7th, 2011 ] by admin

It’s one of the big events on the WSOP event schedule. The 50k Players Championship, and Phil Hellmuth has a shot at making history once again by extending his World Series of Poker run by winning his 12th bracelet.

128 runners ponied up the 50 grand to start this tournament, all looking for glory and cash. For Phil he’s gauranteed at least $168,529 at this point, but I doubt it will be the money he’s looking for. Although a winners cheque for $1.7million wouldn’t go astray either!

But for this one, Phil will have to make his way from 5th place through chip leader Minh Ly who currently sits at the top of the counts with double the amount of chips over his nearest rival.

Just for those that care, Hellmuth has already won 11 bracelets, which have all come via the variant of No Limit Texas Hold’em. Now although the final table for the 50k Players Championship is played in a No Limit Hold’em format (for ESPN coverage reasons), this is a mixed event. So for Hellmuth, this would probably be one of the more satisfying wins for his career. Beating the best players in the game and doing it in an event which is NOT Texas Hold’em could only be a dream come true for the ‘Poker Brat’.

Australia’s own Jeff Lisandro also played this event, however fortunately and unfortantely for Jeff, he finished in 11th place and picked up just over $140k USD for his efforts.
