World Series of Poker 2007 Winner

[ Posted July 22nd, 2007 ] by admin

A new champion was born when the final hand of the The World Series of Poker Championship Main Event was dealt.  Jerry Yang  walked away with $8.25 Million USD, a WSOP bracelet and a slice of history. Outlasting over 6,300 budding opponents Jerry made it to the final table as one of the shorter stacks. His intentions from the very beginning were clear. After winning the first two hands with his super aggressive play, he went on rampage to eliminate a number of players and finally be the only man standing.

Here’s how the final hand went down…

It was Hand# 204 of the final table which saw  Yang  defeat Tuan Lam.

Jerry Yang is on the button, acting first he raises to 2.3million.

Tuan Lam then pushes all-in for 22.2million.

Jerry Yang then thinks for a while and then makes the call.

 Jerry Yang turns over

Lam then turns over

It’s a classic race situation, and the crowd in the room were erupting in cheer as they waited for the community cards.

The flop comes

Lam has hit his Queen, the crowd realise Lam is a big favourite to double up and make a real match of it. Yang needs to hit either 2 of the remaining 8′s in the deck or running cards to make a flush or straight.

The turn brings a little hope for Yang as he now has a gut-shot straight draw. He can now hit a 8 for a set or 6 to make a straight.

The river comes and makes Yang makes his straight and after days of what it seems like endless poker, this Main Event comes to an end and  Jerry Yang is the the new 2007 World Series of Poker Champion.
