Playing at your best

[ Posted May 30th, 2007 ] by admin

I know personally when your playing your best it can definitely be your most profitable time at the tables. But what about when your not? What difference does it do to your bankroll or decision making at the table? It makes a big difference. I know sometimes when I’m playing at my best and when I’m mentally in the right frame of mind, poker is usually at it’s most profitable. On the flip side of that, when I’m at my worst, I almost never walk away with big winning sessions, unless I’m playing against particularly bad players.

The best thing to do, is be able to recognize when you’re not at your best. Sometimes you need to take a break. Walk away from the tables for a period of time. It’s better to walk away for than to stick around and bust your roll.

If you’re going through some stress in your life outside of poker, you have to be able to leave that behind before you take a seat at the felt. If you don’t, you’re losing that edge you would normally have. You’re dead money or giving away money you could have saved or earned.

Be smart. Don’t just keeping playing when you know you’re not making the right decisions and your mentally off your game. It could easily be the difference between building your bankroll and losing it altogether.
