Sydney, the new home for poker?

For Sydney-siders the game of poker, and in particular big world-class tournament poker has been on the backburner for what seems an age, that is, until now. With the introduction of APPT (Asia Pacific Poker Tour), events will/have toured cities such as Manila (Philippines), Seoul (South Korea), Macau (China) and with all of this, the Grand Final Event will be hosted by Sydney at the Star City Casino from the 13th of December to the 16th of December.

The Grand Final will be a $6000+300AUD buy-in Main Event and will be sure to attract some of the biggest names in poker to Sydney for the first time.

The APPT is not the only event to be hosted by Sydney in the coming months either. A month after The APPT Grand Final will see the Poker Million Tour will also host a $1000 buy-in event with a $1,000,000 guaranteed first prize. The event is set to run from the 7th of January to the 13th of January. As this will most likely attract more players than Star City Casino will be able to host on the main poker pit, the event will be held in the Sydney Convention Centre.

I for one, am pleased to know poker has finally made a mark on Sydney in terms of 'big' poker tournaments. It seems like there are more and more professional and semi-professional players popping up all over the place in Sydney. With a world class city and world class casino in Sydney, I often wonder where these tournaments have been over the last few years.

Either way, my arms are open to all tournaments such as these entering Sydney and can only be a good thing for the game of poker. Who knows what's next for Sydney over the next few years. I can guess we can only wait and see.
